Myles Garrett: biography
The Arlington native, Myles Garrett started a football career in NFL in 2017, as a rookie of Cleveland Browns. He became the 1st number of 2017 Draft. He plays at a defensive end position. Myles was the 2018 Pro Bowl participant. Garrett’s net worth is roughly estimated at $10 million, including all of his properties and earnings. He doesn’t have a wife and children.
Childhood and youth
The birthplace of Myles was Arlington, Texas. He was born to his dad, Lawrence, and mom, Audrey, on December 29, 1995. Myles grew up in a sports family. His elder brother, Sean Williams, became a professional basketball player. He was selected on the 2007 Draft by New Jersey Nets, played for Mavericks and Rockets.
Myles’ elder sister, Brea Garrett, was an NCAA champion weight thrower on Texas A&M’s track and field team. Myles studied at the James Martin High School, being a member of its basketball, football and track teams. However, he decided to focus all his strength on football. He was very good in his school years. All main sources, Scout, Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN, rated Myles five recruiting stars.
In October 2013, Garrett was the nation's No. 7 player. That month he announced his commitment to Texas A&M University. Garrett chose the Aggies over Alabama, Ohio State, TCU and Florida State because he saw himself as a missing piece to Kevin Sumlin's squad. Garrett said that they were definitely going up, but they lacked some pass rush. That was all they really needed to complete their team.
College football career
Myles Garrett was the first-ever defensive five-star to sign with the Aggies. He was the second overall prospect in the country. No recruit had more hype and expectation in the recruiting process than Garrett. At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, he was physically ready to join the lineup immediately and showed up that summer as one of the strongest players on the team, thanks to a strong weight-room work ethic that dated to his days at Martin High.
Myles began to open the eyes of the coaching staff during the preseason training camp. The Aggies have one of the country’s best offensive lines, and when he started beating the guys across from him, Sumlin, defensive coordinator Mark Snyder, and defensive line coach Terry Price knew they had something special.
Garrett lived up to the hype as a freshman in 2014, breaking the SEC freshman sack record by recording 11.5. He also had 14 tackles for loss, ten quarterback hurries, and a blocked kick. He was a consensus Freshman All-American. In October 2015, Myles proved once more that he was perhaps the most athletic defensive end in the nation.
During the 15th-ranked Aggies’ showdown with No. 24 Ole Miss, the sophomore batted one of QB Chad Kelly’s passes high into the air and intercepted himself. Adding to his night highlight reel, Garrett delivered that blow to Ole Miss running back Jaylen Walton after making the interception. Plays like those showed why the Texas A&M defensive talent continued to be mentioned among the more flashy offensive Heisman contenders.
Soon Garrett became the winner of the 2015 Bill Willis Award, presented by the Touchdown Club of Columbus. The award was presented annually to college football’s top defensive lineman. In 2015, Garrett led the SEC with 11.5 sacks. He recorded 17 tackles for loss, forced five fumbles, blocked a kick, and intercepted a pass.
On September 24, 2016, Garrett injured his leg against Arkansas in the Aggies’ fourth game of the season, missed the South Carolina game the following week, and then was by his own estimate 60% against Tennessee. However, Myles made 33 tackles in 10 games and 8.5 sacks. He was included in various first-teams of 2016.
On December 31, 2016, Texas A&M defensive end announced that he would enter the upcoming NFL draft and forgo his senior season. Garrett was considered one of the top eligible prospects in that year’s class, and his decision came as no surprise.
Professional football career
The NFL combine only confirmed that Garrett was the top player in the draft. He ran a 4.64-second 40-yard dash, quite quick for a player who weighed in at 272 pounds. Garrett’s bench press was 225 pounds for 33 times, the second-most of any defensive lineman. Soon he visited the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears, who hold the draft's second and third picks.
The Browns and Garrett were linked as a likely pairing with the No. 1 pick. And it happened on April 27, 2017. Then Garrett said:
"They picked me because they think they see something in me, and they know that I can help them rebuild and turn this program around," Garrett said. "That's the mindset that we have to have. Starting next year, we can put the pieces together, not only the players but with a mindset that we can actually do this. I know that the players there have that same mindset. I am going to keep that feeling contagious. I'm just prepared for that."
In May, the sides signed a four year $30.4 million contract with Cleveland. Myles Garrett hoped to make a statement in his first NFL preseason game when the Browns played the Saints in Cleveland. Garrett had a strong training camp and lived up to most expectations for the player selected first overall in the draft. He was listed as the first-team right end on the Browns' official depth chart.
However, Garrett missed the four starting games of NFL season, because of the injury. He debuted only on October 8. Soon, he was injured again. In his rookie season, Myles appeared only in 11 games, scored 31 combined tackles and seven sacks, which was the best result among Browns’ players. At the end of the season, he was named to PFWA All-Rookie Team.
The 2018 season Garrett started as a captain. He started all Browns’ games, scored 44 combined tackles, 13.5 sacks. His stats allowed him to become the 49th best player of the league, and to be named to Pro Bowl.
Personal life
In April 2017, a few hours before Garrett became the 1st Draft’s number, Adidas announced an agreement to a multiyear partnership with the rising star. Garrett already had a few achievements under his belt. With his unique blend of speed and power, Garrett was one of the fastest and most intimidating athletes in the game and was sure to be a terror for quarterbacks for years to come.
Garrett joined the Adidas Football roster that included Offensive Rookie of the Year Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, Defensive Rookie of the Year Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers, Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller of the Denver Broncos, among others. Before the draft, Myles posted his exclusive hard workout.
In February 2018, Garrett met hundreds of Browns fans and dog lovers at Meadow Park in Kirtland. The Browns’ star organized the event, inviting people to join him on Twitter. He posted that he just wanted to sit back and have a nice dog collab. He said that he wouldn’t sign autograph for anyone.
But some unforeseen events forced Garrett to run behind schedule. He tweeted:
“I’m on the way to the dog park... a little late because someone decided to take a poop in the car, and it wasn’t me or Jeremy. See y’all soon!”
Myles was there with Gohan, his best friend, 11-month-old black German Shepard.
