Sam Reid: biography

Sam Reid is an Australian actor of Irish descent. At the beginning of his career, he used the Sebastian Reid alias.

Childhood and youth

The future star was born on February 19, 1987, in rural New South Wales, Australia. His dad was a cattle rancher. Sam has an elder brother Rupert, who's an actor too.

Sam attended a private school in Australia. Then, he spent a few months in New York and relocated to London to study acting. He turned out to be one of the most gifted students at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He graduated in 2010 but his acting career began three years earlier.

Movie career

While Sam was still a student, he was invited to an audition for a part in Anonymous. He failed to get the script on time. Nevertheless, he impressed the jury so much that he landed the role the next day.

His role in the period drama Belle catapulted him to stardom. He got it in 2012 by chance, when another actor quit because of scheduling conflicts.

In 2021, The Newsreader series hit the screen. Sam performed as a news presenter named Dale Jennings there. Anna Torv portrayed a female character who was romantically linked to Dale.

The same year, Sam landed the main role of Lestat in the Interview with the Vampire series. His on-screen partner there was Jacob Anderson, whom you might have seen act as Grey Worm on Game of Thrones. When preparing for this part, Reid learned to speak French and play the piano. One of his most vivid professional dreams came true. He has been obsessed with vampires from an early age. Initially, his favorite one was Dracula — but soon, he got to know about the incomparable Lestat, created by Anne Rice.

In total, Reid's filmography includes around 30 movies and TV shows.

Personal life

The star prefers to keep his private life out of the limelight. Only his dearest and nearest people know whether he has a girlfriend or wife or not.

He was rumored to have an affair with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, a stage and movie actress from the UK. They both starred in Belle. Some sources claim that Sam got secretly married a while ago. This information has never been officially proven.

In an interview, Sam confessed that he would like to settle down before tying the knot. Besides, he stated that acting was his only priority in life and he was not planning to get a second one.
