Rui Hachimura is a professional basketball player from Japan who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Childhood and youth

He was born on February 8, 1998 in Toyama, Japan. His mother Makiko is Japanese and his father Zakari Jabil is Beninese. ne, Washington, where he played college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Basketball career

During his college career, Hachimura developed into one of the top players in the nation. He was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2019 and was also a consensus first-team All-American. He helped lead Gonzaga to the NCAA tournament in each of his three seasons, including the Elite Eight in 2017 and 2019. He finished his college career by averaging 19.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

After his junior year, Hachimura decided to enter the 2019 NBA draft, and he was selected by the Washington Wizards with the ninth overall pick. He made his NBA debut in the 2019-20 season, and quickly established himself as one of the team's key contributors. He averaged 13.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, and earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

In the 2020-2021 season, Hachimura's role in the team increased, he averaged 14.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He had several strong performances throughout the season and he was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January 2021. He also became the first Japanese player to win the award. He showed an improvement in his game and became a more consistent player for the Wizards.

On January 23, 2023 Rui Hachimura was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
