Childhood and youth

Ajay Banga was born on November 10, 1959, in Pune, India, to a middle-class family. He grew up in a household where education was highly valued, and his parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility from a young age. Banga attended Bishop's School in Pune before going on to complete his undergraduate degree at St. Stephen's College in Delhi. In 2010, Banga was appointed CEO of Mastercard, where he succeeded Robert Selander. Under his leadership, Mastercard's revenue grew from $5.5 billion to $16.9 billion, and the company's market capitalization increased from $21 billion to over $300 billion.
