Teresa Palmer: biography

Teresa Palmer is the Hollywood actress from Australia. She has earned her global fame after the horror movie The Grudge 2 appeared on the big screen. This role made an impact on her future career: some half of the further projects pertained to the genres of horror and thriller. Besides, the actress has taken part in fantasy movies, for instance, Bedtime Stories and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. She also played in melodramas, crime action movies, and sci-fi movies.

The future actress Teresa Palmer was born on February 26, 1986, in Adelaide, Australia, into the family of Kevin and Paula Palmer. Unfortunately, the birth of the child could not prevent the couple from splitting up: when the girl was three, her parents divorced. The former spouses could not decide who would take care of Teresa, and she had to live with her mother and father in turn.

Kevin Palmer married again; his new wife Karen gave birth to four children. Teresa’s mother had a bipolar disorder, and the disease deteriorated after the divorce. When the mother’s disorder was acute, the father would take Teresa to his farm. Unfortunately, none of the parents managed to give the girl the warm, complete family and happy childhood.

After Teresa finished school, she entered the Mercedes College; this is when she decided to choose the acting career. She began by working as a children’s animator and appeared in second-rate ads. However, she believed her golden opportunity would follow soon. Palmer graduated from the college and won the prestigious local contest “Search for a Movie Star.” Soon, her photos were published on the city talent agency where K. Thalluri saw them.

Movies

The call from the director K. Thalluri was the turning point in the young woman’s career. Teresa was invited to audition for the movie 2:37, and she was successful even though she was an unknown provincial actress with no experience. Teresa did not miss the opportunity. She played the young woman Melody raped by her own brother; as a result, the character got pregnant. Palmer brilliantly played the challenging role of a suicidal teenager. The movie was shown at the Cannes Film Festival; critics and ordinary people were emotional and did a standing ovation to the director and the actors.

In a while, Teresa started conquering Hollywood. She should have debuted in the famous Jumper, but her role was given to Rachel Bilson at the last minute. Palmer took it to heart and even decided to return to Australia. However, she was given a second chance: she was invited to the thriller The Grudge 2.

In 2007, the actress moved to Los Angeles. A flow of new offers followed. Palmer played the beauty Lucy in Rod Hardy’s December Boys, the lover of the main character in Jon Turteltaub’s fantasy The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and the capricious rich girl Violet in the comedy Bedtime Stories. The actress said the adventure action movie I Am Number Four by D. J. Caruso was her favorite project. Teresa and her partners played the aliens who had to hide on Earth from their enemies. Palmer took lessons of extreme driving, learned how to use a rifle, and changed her image dramatically.

In 2013, the new movie Warm Bodies starring Teresa Palmer came out: it was an unusual story of love between a zombie and an ordinary woman. The main character, the zombie man (Nicholas Hoult) remembered only the first letter of his name, R. His lover (Teresa Palmer) called him this name. Fans recognized the eternal plot about Romeo and Juliet: the confrontation between people and zombies reminded of the conflict between two families in Shakespeare’s play.

After this project, the actress was on maternity leave for a while. She returned soon and starred in several movies; Point Break, the new version of the 1991 movie, was the famous project of that period. Palmer played Samsara, the character absent in the first movie.

In 2016, the actress got the role in the action movie Triple 9. The title of the movie refers to the code 999 that identifies a murder of a police officer. The movie tells the story of a criminal group; pressed by the Russian mafia, the members organize the robbery where it is almost impossible to succeed. To increase their chances to succeed, they try to distract the police by murdering an officer across the town.

In 2016, Teresa Palmer also participated in the war drama Hacksaw Ridge based on the biography of the corporal Desmond Doss; he was the first conscientious objector who received the most prestigious American award, the Medal of Honor.

Teresa Palmer starred in the horror Lights Out based on the 2013 short movie under the same title. As the story runs, the ghost killing in the darkness appears, so the characters have to hide from it in well-lit places. Teresa Palmer plays the young woman whose family has been attacked. The ghost follows Teresa’s mother: they used to be in the same psychiatric facility.

Personal life

The actress is known for her numerous love affairs. The first serious relationship began in Australia: the actress was seeing the soccer player Stuart Dew; they split up after Teresa moved to the US.

Palmer often came to clubs and social events with her stage partners, so the media believed she was dating Topher Grace and Zac Efron.

The director Mark Webber made the Hollywood heartbreaker settle down. In a year after they started dating, Webber proposed to the actress; the wedding ceremony took place in December 2013. In February 2014, Teresa gave birth to the son Bodhi Rain. In May 2016, the world learned the actress was pregnant again; in December, the second child Forest Sage Palmer was born.

Present days

In 2017, Teresa Palmer got the role in the Australian thriller Berlin Syndrome. The actress played the journalist who met a handsome man when she was on a business trip; in the course of time, she discovered the head-over-heels-with-love man was not going to let her go – he locked her in a cellar. The title of the movie refers to the social and psychological term “Stockholm syndrome,” and the movie itself pictures the relations of a victim and an abductor.

The next project was also a thriller: the American-Australian project 2:22. The movie tells the story of the incredible miracle when the crash of who planes was prevented. It is the story of close connections among strangers.

2018 brought Teresa Palmer the leading part in the fantasy series A Discovery of Witches. She plays the professor of history who found a manuscript on magic and witches. The situation is complicated because the woman herself is a hereditary witch, and her lover who worked as a geneticist turned out to be a vampire.

Palmer is also working on another 2018 movie: the sports drama Ride Like a Girl.
