    Katheryn Winnick is a Canadian actress of the Ukrainian origin. She became a frequently discussed person after the TV series Vikings, although she had participated in almost 60 movies by that moment.

    Katheryn was born on December 17, 1977, in Etobicoke that later was integrated to Toronto and spent her childhood and youth there. The girl’s name was Katerina Vinitskaya. Her ancestors used to live in West Ukraine and moved to Germany in 1940 as political refugees persecuted by the Soviet Union; later, they migrated to Canada.

    Katheryn had three siblings: a sister Daria and two brothers, Adam and Markjan. Adam became a Canadian military man and served in Afghanistan; Markjan followed his sister’s example and built an acting career.

    Although Winnick grew up in the English-speaking world, she did not understand the English language: the family and community used only the Ukrainian. Thanks to school education, the girl learned English and French. However, the actress considers Ukrainian her native language.
