    Childhood and youth

Sara Rebecca was born in 1975 in California. Her parents are Barbara Cowan (née Crane) and Harold Abeles. Sara then took the last name Gilbert for Paul Gilbert, her mother's first husband, even though she had no blood ties to him and was born a year before he was dead. By the way, Paul Gilbert was a great actor, and his death remains mysterious: it is known that he had died of a stroke but his daughter, Melissa, wrote in her autobiography that her father had been suffering from constant pain from injuries incurred during the World War II and had committed suicide.

Gilbert has a rather big and talented family. Her two siblings on the mother's side, Melissa Ellen Gilbert and Jonathan J. Gilbert, have both starred in a western drama television series Little House on the Prairie. At present, Melissa is a television director and actress, but Jonathan became a stockbroker instead of the acting career. On the father's side, Sara also has two siblings: sister Patrice and brother Joseph.

Sara’s older half-sister Melissa always was her inspiration. When Sara was six years old, she visited Hollywood Walk of Fame with her mother and saw Melissa’s star. After that day, Gilbert decided to become an actress. Her career started acting in commercials.

In 1997, Sara graduated from Yale University, where her primary subject was photography.

    Movie and TV career

By the age of thirteen years old, Gilbert has already appeared in some television movies and an advertisement company for Kool-Aid, a brand of a drink mix. Then, she got the role of Darlene Conner in the American television sitcom Roseanne. She has been starring in this series for nine years and even wrote one episode story called "Don't Make Me Over" that was used for the fourth season. Producers have considered Sara as a very important person for this project, so they even have been making schedules comfortable for her to continue her education at Yale University.

So, as we can see, even since childhood Sara used to be not only in front of the camera but also behind. Gilbert directed her own short film called Persona Non Grata in 1998.

In 2005, Gilbert came back to the peak time television in the sitcom Twins on The Warner Bros. network. Then, The Warner Bros. and The United Paramount networks got united, and that fact was the cause of the drop of shows’ number and cancelation the sitcom after the first season.

Another famous Sara’s role is Leslie Winkle in the CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) television series named The Big Bang Theory. Leslie was a friend of Leonard Hofstadter who was played by Johnny Galecki, who in his turn, had already starred with Gilbert on Roseanne. Sara was a part of the main cast, but in two years screen-writers understood that they didn't know how to write this character full-time, so Gilbert’s role turned into recurring one. Then, after Amy Farrah Fowler and Bernadette Rostenkowski became primary characters, Gilbert was cut of the series. Generally, she has appeared in The Big Bang Theory from 2007 to 2010.

In 2017, it was announced about revival series of Roseanne, for which Sara was an executive producer. In March 2018 its eight episodes were selected by the American Broadcasting Company, and they started airing. These episodes received really good ratings and high critic reviews and due to this Roseanne got the second season.

Unfortunately, in May 2018, ABC canceled the release of the next seasons because of politics. Roseanne Barr, a member of the cast, posted some offensive remarks on Twitter about Valerie Jarrett, an advisor of former president Barack Obama. However, Gilbert did not support Barr and said that Barr’s words "abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show." That year, ABC announced that there would be a spin-off of Roseanne called "The Conners" with all of the regular cast members except Roseanne Barr. Gilbert starred and produced it again.

At present, Sara Gilbert is a co-host, and also an executive producer of The Talk, a talk show that belongs to the CBS's daytime programming block and that premiered on October 18, 2010. In 2016, Gilbert received a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show as producer and creator of the show at the same time. While hosting The Talk, Gilbert discusses a lot of topics, invites a lot of people who are occupied in various activity fields. The atmosphere here is always positive. For instance, in 2015, Amy Schumer and Serena Williams posed nearly nude for the 2016 Pirelli calendar shot by Annie Leibovitz, and Sara expressed her admiration of this. On her talk show Sara is usually really open with the audience, and that time she also shared her feelings that when she poses naked, she does not feel comfortable at all.

Sara has a net worth of $35 Million, which she gets mostly from her work as a director and actress at the same time.

    Personal life

When Sara was a teenager, she used to date Johnny Galecki who was her Roseanne and later The Big Bang Theory co-star. During their relationship, she realized that she is a lesbian. Sara says that Galecki was very supportive and they are still friends. Moreover, he kept Sara's secret as long as she wanted and he supported her when she had some issues with relationships and personal doubts after her coming out on The Talk in 2010. Before her coming out Gilbert preferred not to be open about the personal life.

Speaking about Sara's personal life, she is the mother of three kids. In 2001, Gilbert started dating Allison Adler, a television producer. They had two children. Sara’s partner gave birth to their first kid, Levi Hank, in 2004. Then, in three years, Gilbert gave birth to their second child, Sawyer Jane. In 2011, the pair announced that they broke up but without any scandal. After that, Gilbert started a new relationship with Linda Perry who is a music producer, musician and used to be a part of 4 Non Blondes rock band. In 2014, they got married. Since 2015 Sara and her wife have a son together, Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry. Actually, the announcement about them having a kid was really sweet. A new season of The Talk started from the “I dare ya” block, and Gilbert said that she would not do the dare because she was pregnant. The whole audience just exploded with applause.

There is an interesting fact about Sara Gilbert: although she appears in big movies sometimes, she has always wanted to develop herself not in the cinematography but on television. And, as we can see, she gained success!

By the way, unlike other celebrities, Gilbert is not a social media person, actually; she does not post photos on her Instagram and so on. That is really frustrating for her admirers because they would like to know a little more about the personal life of their favorite actress.
