    Marc Maron: biography

    Marc was one of the most demanded guests on “Late Show with David Letterman” during 1990-2000. He also performed on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” for more than 40 years. From 1993-1994, he tried his hands on hosting and conducted Comedy Central’s “Short Attention Span Theater”. For a brief duration he also hosted American game show named “Never Mind the Buzzcocks” in the year 2002. The show was aired by VH1.

    Marc has also shown his talent as a host on radio network. He worked on the position of a host for the shows like “The Marc Maron Show” and co-hosted “Morning Sedition” and “Breakroom Live” on Air America radio network from 2004-2009. Marc was invited frequently on the show “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn”.

    After the cancellation of “Breakroom Live” show, during September 2009, Marc Maron first podcast named “WTF with Marc Maron” went on air. The podcast used to run twice in a week, where Mark used to conduct interviews with authors, musicians, celebrities and comedians in his garage located in Highland Park, Los Angeles, California. One of the episodes with Louis C.K. became a massive hit and “Slate” magazine ranked it as #1 podcast episode of all times in 2010. Other popular episodes of the podcast include getting up-close and personal with Todd Glass (2012) and President Barack Obama (2015).

    In 2013 Marc served as an executive producer for an IFC television comedy series “Maron”. He wrote some of the episodes of “Maron” as well. The series ran from 2013-2016. From 2017 onwards Marc is a part of comedy series “GLOW” by Netflix.

    Early Life

    Marc Maron’s dad was an orthopedic surgeon and his mother was a home maker named Barry R. Maron and Toby Maron respectively. His birth took place in Jersey City, New Jersey. He belongs to a Jewish background. First 6 years of his life were spent in Wayne, New Jersey. Later, because of his father medical residency for U.S. Air force the whole family shifted to Alaska for 2 years.

    When he was in 3rd grade his father left his job and went to Albuquerque along with his family. Marc continued his studies in Albuquerque up till graduation from Highland High School. He completed his B.A. degree in English literature from Boston University in 1986.


    Maron started his Television career as a host on “Short Attention Span Theater”. In 1994, he made his movie debut as Valet in the movie “D2: The Mighty Ducks”. Unluckily his scene from the movie did not make it into final cut. After a year he gave an unsuccessful audition for “Saturday Night Live”. During 1996, Maron tried his luck as a script writer for two episodes of an animated show “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist”. It was in 1997, when Marc Maron comedy side became prominent in “Who’s the Caboose?” and then he made his first of many appearances in the famous comedy show “Late Night with Conan O’ Brien”.

    His other hit ventures include being a regular guest on “The Late Night Show with David Letterman”. During mid-90s he seized an amazing opportunity to perform for his own thirty minutes stand up specials on Comedy Central and HBO channel.

    In 2000, Marc did a minor role in the movie named “Almost Famous”. His next role was of Davin where he portrayed life story of Mitch Hedberg’s in the movie called “Los Enchiladas”. He exhibited his writing skills through autobiography titled “The Jerusalem Syndrome: My Life as a Reluctant Messiah” (2001). His initial four records, “Not Sold Out” (2002), “Tickets Still Available” (2009), “Final Engagement” (2009) and “This Has to be Funny” (2011) are comical classics. The first two albums were controversial as their subject was Bush administration’s poor response on 9/11 tragedy.

    Marc Maron Air America show called “Maron V. Seder” came out in 2018. The weekly web cast show was co-hosted by Sam Seder. Later the show’s title was changed to “Breakroom Live with Maron & Seder”. His next voice over act was in 2012 for the show called “Metalocalypse” for the character of Magnus Hammersmith. His production debut film was “Marc Maron: Thinky Pain”. Both the film and his extremely popular show “Maron” on IFC came out in year 2013.

    The following year in 2014, he released his stand-up special album on Netflix. He did another voice over act for the role of “Randall in “Harvey Beaks” (2014) show. His creation “Maron” was nominated for WGA awards in 2016. He was the sole producer, author and creator of “Maron”.


    Marc Maron Glow project brought him critical acclaim among both audience and critics. In 2018, he was nominated twice at “Screen Actors Guild” for Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for his role in “Glow”. In the same year he was also nominated at “Critics’ Choice” for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role in “Glow”.

    Marc spent his life in Astoria, Queens from 1990s to 2000s and later in 2009 he returned to High Land Park, Los Angeles. His love for pets is evident from his collection of homeless cats in his house which he usually refers as “Cat Ranch”. Marc Maron cats are named as Buster, Monkey, Buster Kitten and LaFonda. One of his cats named Boomer got lost; for the sake of Boomer’s memory he started using catchphrase ‘Boomer Lives’ in his podcast.

    He was addicted to alcohol and drug during 1990s. He never tried to hide his addiction on his podcast and finally in August 1999 he became sober. As far as his married life is concerned he got married twice with his colleagues, once with Kimberly Reiss and once with a standup comedian Mishna Wolff. He performed with his divorced wife Wolff at Edinburgh festival in 2007.

    After that he got engaged with Jessica Sanchez for a short while. The relationship was announced broken on 14th October, 2013. He dated one of his Podcast guest Moon Zappa for a brief time in year 2014. During one of his podcast show on 2nd March, 2015, Marc confirmed his dating with Sarah Cain.
