Jim Carrey is a great American actor and comedian. He gained recognition mostly in the 1990s with the films Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), The Mask (1994), and Liar Liar (1997). Let’s look at some interesting facts about the actor:
1. At the age of 10, Carrey sent a letter with his resume to Carol Burnett
When he was ten years old, Jim actually sent a letter to Carol Burnett, a famous comedian, and actress, saying that he was a master of impressions and full of ambitions. The young boy claimed that he should be on the Carol Burnett Show. He was satisfied with a reply that was written from a template.
2. He is terrible at basketball
In 1996, the comedy The Cable Guy was released, and Carry played the role of a single cable TV installer. There were scenes of basketball games, but the problem was that Jim could not play at all. So he just pretended to be playing, and the ball was digitally added in the film later.
3. Jim was a pen friend of Tupac Shakur
That is a really sweet story of Carrey’s support. The actor and Tupac have always been mutual fans of each other. In the mid-90s, they used to exchange letters when the rapper was in jail. In his letters, Jim tried to cheer his pen friend up.
4. He is a radical anti-vaxxer
In 2008, Jim and his girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, whose son had a diagnose of autism, had a “Green Our Vaccines” march and also a rally in Washington, D.C. Next year, the actor posted an article on the Huffington Post and tied to perpetuate the myth that vaccines and autism were linked. However, scientific experts publicly dismissed Carrey's claims.
5. Carrey has a private jet that is often featured in the movies
For 2019, the actor’s net worth is estimated at $150 million. He has spent a part of his savings on the Gulfstream V private jet, which is considered as one of the bests in the world. By the way, this jet can be spotted in some of the films where Jim appears. So look closely!
6. He has written a book for children
In 2013, Carrey released the album for kids titled How Roland Rolls. It is about a scared wave with a name Roland. The actor called it “kind of a metaphysical children’s story, which deals with a lot of heavy stuff in a really childish way."
7. There is a stamp with the image of Jim’s head
In 2014, Canada Post honored the actor with a limited edition of postage stamps, on which there was his portrait. So now Jim’s fans have the opportunity to lick the back of his head before sending a letter although we think it is nicer to keep the stamp and do not send it anywhere.
8. He might be considered as the hater of Christmas
Carrey played the most popular characters who hate the delightful holiday, Christmas. In 2000, he portrayed Grinch in the How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and in 2009, Jim had the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. However, the actor himself says that Christmas is one of his favorites holidays!
9. In childhood, Jim wore dancing shoes to bed
In one of his interviews, Carrey admitted that when he was a child, he used to wear tap shoes to bed. It was done because his family often could ask him to make some performance in the middle of the night. Sounds ridiculous, right? Anyway, the kid loved it.
10. Not a fun fact
Carrey has always been a comedian, but we need to highlight his tough moments of life too. In 2017, he announced that he no longer had depression. Before that moment, the actor had suffered from depression for years, and he had been on Prozac for a long time. Eventually, Jim understood that life was too beautiful for pills, alcohol, and drugs. So now, he enjoys his life fully!
