Disappearance

In January 2023, Julian Sands, a dedicated mountaineer, went missing while hiking in Mount Baldy, California. Despite extensive search efforts, as of June 2023, he has not been located. Severe storms and challenging weather conditions have hindered the investigation. Sands' car was found, and his cell phone last pinged on January 15, suggesting it ran out of power. His three adult children, including his son Henry, joined the search along with experienced climbers.

Sands was believed to be hiking the Baldy Bowl Trail, but evidence of avalanches and icy conditions have made the ground search difficult. The family has expressed gratitude for the search teams' efforts. Sands' brother, Nick Sands, has come to terms with his disappearance. On June 19, after five months of his disappearance, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department conducted another search mission with over 80 search and rescue members. This marked the eighth official search mission, surpassing 500 volunteer search hours.
