    Jemele Hill: biography

Jemele Hill is a talented sports journalist who is currently employed by The Atlantic. She is also famous for a dozen of years of work for ESPN, where she had her column and participated in several shows.

    Childhood and youth

Jemele was born in winter 1975 in Michigan. The girl was a tomboy and loved various sports; baseball was her favorite. There is not so much information about the celebrity’s parents. Hill and her mother moved to Houston in 1980 but then returned to their home city, Detroit.

Jemele decided to become a sports journalist when she was a student at Mumford High School; she loved books and writing. After graduation, the young woman continued her education at Michigan State University.

    Journalistic career

Raleigh News & Observer was the first employment for the beginning journalist in 1997; she was responsible for general assignments pertaining to sport. Two years later, Hill received a job at The Detroit Free Press.

Besides, the writer worked for The Orlando Sentinel for two years (2005-2006) and reported on the Olympic Games in Athens. 2006 brought a milestone in her career: Hill was invited to ESPN.

    ESPN

As long as Jemele signed a contract with the media conglomerate, she had no time to get bored: the woman combined columnist work and TV projects, such as ESPN First Take and Outside the Lines. Temporary programs took place, too: for instance, Hill was a sideline journalist during the 2012 college football season.

Some moments were controversial: in 2008, the journalist was suspended after referring to Adolf Hitler. However, she has never been afraid of being straight in her texts. In fall 2017, Hill shared a series of tweets against Donald Trump and described him as a “white supremacist”.

The podcast His & Hers and the program The Six are among the most popular shows held by Jemele Hill and Mike Smith. In 2018, when the woman left ESPN, she expressed much gratitude to her colleagues, particularly Smith, and even called him her “brother”.

Since October 2018, Jemele has been working as a writer for The Atlantic magazine.

    Personal life

The woman met Ian Wallace in 2014 and dated him for four years before introducing him as her fiancé; the news surprised everybody. The wedding ceremony took place in Monarch Beach Resort in November 2019; some of Hill’s ex-colleagues were her bridesmaids.

One can follow the star on Instagram and Twitter; she often shares work-related and personal moments there. Besides, the latter social network often becomes a conflict ground: for example, Mark Ingram was displeased when Jemele posted his photo with Derrick Henry and cracked a joke about it.

    Present days

Today, the journalist is back on television: the audience can see her in the reality show Below Deck. Things have not always been smooth, though: Jemele was called rude at first but apologized later and made amends with Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain.
