Ke Huy Quan: biography

Ke Huy Quan, also known as Jonathan Ke Quan, is a Vietnamese-American actor and stunt coordinator. He is best known for his roles in the movies "The Goonies" (1985) and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984).

Childhood and youth

Ke Huy Quan was born on August 20, 1971 in Saigon, South Vietnam. His family together with his eight siblings fled Vietnam in 1975 as refugees and settled in the United States. Quan grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California, where he attended high school. He began practicing martial arts at a young age and earned a black belt in Taekwondo. It was his martial arts skills that caught the attention of a Hollywood talent scout, leading to his acting debut in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984) at the age of 12.

Movie career

Ke Huy Quan began his acting career in 1984, when he was cast as the character Short Round in Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". Quan's performance in the film was widely praised, and he became a fan favorite for his witty one-liners and impressive martial arts skills. The following year, he starred in another classic adventure film, "The Goonies" (1985), playing the character Data.

After these early successes, Quan took a break from acting to focus on his education. He later returned to the screen with a role in the action-comedy film "Breathing Fire" (1991), in which he played a martial arts student who teams up with his brother to take on a gang of criminals. Quan also appeared in the 1992 comedy film "Encino Man", alongside Sean Astin and Brendan Fraser.

In addition to his acting work, Quan has also worked as a stunt coordinator and fight choreographer for several films and television shows. He provided stunts for the 2000 superhero film "X-Men" and worked as a fight coordinator for the television series "Martial Law" (1998-2000), among other projects.

In 2020 Ke Huy Quan received the role in the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once", which was released in 2022. Quan’s performance received a lot of attention and positive critics.

In September 2022, it was announced that Ke Huy Quan had joined the cast for the Marvel series Loki.

Despite his relatively brief acting career, Quan remains a beloved figure in the world of 80s cinema, particularly among fans of adventure and action movies.
