Chloe Bennet: biography

The American actress Chloe Bennet had a first-hand experience of racial prejudice when she tried to get a role in Hollywood. With her bright appearance and artistic talent, the woman with Chinese roots took great pains to enter the world of cinematography.

Chloe has an active social position: together with her colleagues, she founded RUN (Represent. Us. Now.) that united American people of the Asian origin and gave them the opportunity to support each other. Besides, Bennet collaborates with organizations protecting women’s rights.

Childhood and youth

Chloe was born on April 18, 1992, in Chicago. Her family was international: the father, Bennet Wang, was an American of Chinese descent, and the mother, Stephanie Wang (née Crane), was a white American who had Caucasian roots.

Besides, some of the actress’s ancestors were English, Scottish, Irish, Swiss, and German.

Chloe grew up in a large family and had six siblings: three brothers, two African-American half-brothers, and an adopted brother with Mexican and Filipino roots. Thus, the girl absorbed the ideas of tolerance and respect for other nations.

The family was Christian. The parents worked hard to provide their kids with everything they needed: the father was an investment banker, and the mother was an internist.

At the age of 15, the would-be star graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep. She proved to be an artistic student and frequently participated in concerts and contests.

Music

The Second City Youth Ensemble is quite popular in Chicago: it is an educational center for beginning artists and singers that organizes shows and performances. Children and teenagers have the chance to study acting there and improvise. This is where 12-year-old Chloe happened to get.

Producers noticed the young talent and decided that the father’s home country, China, was the best place to start her music career. 15-year-old Chloe moved there; her grandmother took care of the girl. Bennet had to learn Mandarin Chinese at a Shanghai school. She also lived in Beijing for a while.

At this period, Chloe created the songs “Uh Oh” and “Every Day in Between” and performed them at a charity concert at Zebra music festival (2009). The event was held to collect money for victims of the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan.

It was the first time for Chloe to sing in front of a large audience; more than 100 million people watched the show on TV. Soon, the young woman signed contracts; she often appeared in the Chinese media and billboards. Nike, Ports 1961, and Umbro became her sponsors.

In 2011, the artist presented the debuting single “Uh Oh” in two languages, English and Chinese, as well as two music videos. MTV China, MTV Asia, and other channels broadcast them. The videos earned much popularity, and the young singer had her first fans.

The same year, Bennet appeared in the music video “Tonight” of the South Korean group Big Bang and Chase Jordan’s “Lose Control (Take a Sip)”.

When Chloe remembers that period, she says it was a regular job for her, just like some teenagers look after small kids. Bennet confessed she did not feel she would always be connected with music, even though she behaved like a pop star.

Movies

As long as Chloe came back to the United States, she decided to try acting. In 2010, she appeared on American television as a participant of the show The Nightlife. While producers knew who she was, rejections were even more surprising and bitter.

“I had a casting director tell me: 'You're not quite white enough for the role, but you're not quite Asian enough for the best friend role”, the actress told journalists in one of her interviews.

The woman used to think it was true; according to Chloe, such situations happened often. Directors were not interested in the actress even when racial issues were not important. Later, the artist said that some of the Hollywood movie-makers were racist and did not give her roles due to her “inconvenient” second name.

Chloe decided to take her father’s second name, Bennet, for the stage. According to the Chinese traditions, it was a great honor.

In 2012, Chloe Bennet had a secondary role of Hailey in the series Nashville. The same year, she joined the cast of the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered in 2013. The actress personified Daisy "Skye" Johnson and spent two months practicing boxing, kickboxing, and jujutsu.

Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, and Luke Mitchell starred in the project as well. Fans believed that Chloe was dating one of her colleagues, Brett Dalton, but the artists denied the rumors and revealed they were only good friends.

In 2017, Chloe auditioned for the musical Valley Girl and played Karen. It was a remake of the 1983 movie under the same title. The premiere was supposed to take place in 2018; however, it was postponed to 2019 due to the scandals with the blogger Logan Paul who also appeared in the movie.

Personal life

Chloe Bennet is not married. In 2011, she was often seen with the actor and singer Tony Oller (Beneath the Darkness, The Purge).

Two years later, Chloe had an affair with the actor Austin Nichols who played in the TV series One Tree Hill and The Walking Dead.

Fans were actively discussing Chloe’s love story with the blogger Logan Paul, but the couple broke up eventually. Soon, the actress started posting pictures of DJ Sam French on her Instagram and called him “a good boy”. Followers were sure: the musician was Chloe’s new boyfriend.

Chloe’s body measurements are modeling: 32-24-34; her height is 5.48 feet (167 cm.), and her weight is 121.25 lbs. (55 kg.); she looks hot and sexy. In 2014, Esquire invited her to a bikini photo session. Rumors had it that Maxim was going to publish her nude pictures, but no evidence followed.

Present days

The woman continues to work on the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.; the filming of the seventh season began in February 2019.
