Christina Aguilera is an American singer and songwriter, Grammy Winner. Aguilera has become famous as a dancer and gained popularity in the film and television industry. Christina Aguilera has worked as an actress and TV host, as well as a film director. The singer is famous not only for her creative skills, Aguilera is engaged in philanthropy and she is the UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Christina Aguilera was born in the southern part of New York, in Staten Island. Her father, Fausto Xavier Aguilera, an immigrant from Ecuador, was a professional soldier. The mother, Shelly Loraine Fidler, was a former violinist and pianist as well as the member of the American Youth Symphony. By her eldest daughter's birth, she had already given up her stage career and became a teacher of Spanish at school. Christina has the sister Rachel who is six years younger.

Little Christina’s childhood cannot be called carefree, primarily because her father was very authoritarian and his despotism suppressed both wife and children. This soundtrack was so successful that it was nominated for the Golden Globe and brought Aguilera the first professional contract with the recording studio RCA Records.

In 1997, the singer first appeared in another artist’s single as a guest star. Aguilera performed the song "All I Wanna Do" with Keizo Nakanishi.

In 1998, the singer presented the first music video for her own single "Reflection".

In 1999, Christina Aguilera released the debut album called Christina Aguilera. It immediately became popular, and the single "Genie in a Bottle" was the best hit not only in America but also in 14 countries. The song peaked for 5 consecutive weeks in the most famous music Billboard chart. The second single "What a Girl Wants" not only repeated the fate of the first song but also became the major commercial success of the year. Thanks to these hits, Christina Aguilera's first album became 10 times platinum and brought the singer Grammy, ASCAP Pop Music, BMI, Blockbuster, Ivor Novello, and Teen Awards.

In 2000, Christina released the Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo. It mostly repeated the first record, but the songs were performed in Spanish. There were also 5 new songs. The disc did not have much commercial success in the US, but it was recognized in the Spanish-speaking countries and got the Latin Grammy Award as the best album of the year.

The same year, the Christmas album My Kind of Christmas was also released. It is interesting that the album hit the top 30, even though there were no promotional singles.

In 2001, Aguilera together with Pink, Mya and Lil Kim made a real sensation by recording a cover version of the famous song "Lady Marmalade" as a soundtrack to the movie Moulin Rouge. The song and the quartet got the Grammy Award, the music video was called the best video of the year in many countries, and the single topped all world charts for many weeks.

The same year Aguilera was invited to perform the single with her colleague. The artist sang "Nobody Wants to Be Lonely" in a duet with Ricky Martin. The singer also participated in the recording of two charity compositions "What's Going On" and "El Último Adiós".

It was hard to record the next album Stripped, the release was postponed several times, but in October 2002 it did take place. A heartbreak song "Dirrty" won the Q Awards, and the romantic ballad "Beautiful" became not only the Grammy Winner but also most titled Aguilera’s song.

Two more singles from this album such as the song "Fighter" and the feminist anthem "Can’t Hold Us Down" could reach the top of the world charts.

Fans had to wait four years for the new album. In 2006, the album Back to Basics was released, and three songs became hits - "Ain’t no Other Man", "Hurt" and "Candyman". Then there was a four-year break again.

Nevertheless, the release of the first collection of Aguilera’s hits "Keeps Getting’ Better: A Decade of Hits" in 2008 made a long break shorter.

The album Bionic appeared only in 2010. It was in the style of synth-pop. The album includes the previously released singles "You Lost Me" and "I Hate Boys", the song "Woohoo", recorded with the participation of Nicki Minaj, and the song "Not Myself Tonight", which was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association.

This disc caused a curious incident because the public received it without enthusiasm, and this album still remains the most commercially unsuccessful, but critics called it the peak of the singer's creativity.

Perhaps, the reason was that Aguilera, along with singer Cher, worked simultaneously on the musical Burlesque, where she played one of the main roles. The CD with the songs from this show was much more successful than the released album.

In 2011, Christina Aguilera performed the song "Moves Like Jagger" together with Maroon 5 for the album Hands All Over. The single became eleven times platinum in Australia, eight times platinum in Canada, six times platinum in the US and received several platinum awards in a dozen countries.

Another track, where Aguilera was again a guest star, was slightly less popular. In 2012, Christina sang the song "Feel This Moment" with Pitbull for his album Global Warming. The track was certified four times platinum in Canada, triple-platinum in Australia, twice- platinum in Mexico.

Aguilera's latest studio album is Lotus, which was released in 2012 and had a moderate success. It took the 7th place in the American chart, the popularity of the record in Europe was even smaller.

In 2013, Aguilera presented the latest music video for the solo song "Let There Be Love". The same year, three more videos were released for Christina Aguilera’s songs, which she performed in duets with other musicians.

The fans saw music videos of the tracks "Feel This Moment", recorded together with Pitbull, "Hoy Tengo ganas de ti", performed together with Alejandro Fernández, and "Say Something", which Aguilera recorded along with A Great Big World.

In total, the artist has presented more than three dozen music videos, Christina Aguilera has appeared as a guest performer in eight clips.

In 2014, Aguilera worked on Lady Gaga's single "Do What U Want" together with this bodacious singer.

Personal life

Christina Aguilera was involved in a romantic relationship with a dancer of her troupe Jorge Santos. In 2001, the singer made a tattoo on the belly as a sign of a close relationship with the dancer.
