Childhood and youth

Lashana Rasheda Lynch's birthplace is Hammersmith, London, England, UK. She was born there on November 27, 1987, to the parents of Jamaican ancestry. Lynch was raised in an incomplete family - by a single mom. The woman had a bachelor's degree in acting from the Arts Educational Schools (ArtsEd), London.

In 2009, during her second year at ArtsEd, she received the Laurence Olivier Bursary from the Society of London Theatre.

Remarkably, Lashana originally intended to build a singer career. To pursue this her dream, she entered The Sylvia Young Theatre School. Her teacher noticed her talent for acting and advised her to take up an acting course too.

She created a play about a young poet falling in love with a boy – it was named 'Cross Words,' which witnessed her attempt at shattering stereotypes. The play has been shown on stage in London.

Lashana Lynch's professional career started in the London theater scene. She began getting unconventional roles, such as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, which is a male character, or Rita in Educating Rita.

Her appearance in an episode of the series The Bill in 2007 marked her television debut. Five years later, Lashana Lynch debuted in movies – she got the role of Belle Newman in the drama movie Fast Girls. Besides, she contributed to the drama series Grange Hill. Later, the actress was seen playing in British pictures such as Powder Room and Brotherhood and TV series such as Silent Witness, Atlantis, Death in Paradise, Crims, and Doctors. Besides, she got a supporting role in the TV movie The 7.39.

2017 brought Lynch entry to the American film industry – she played Rosaline Capulet, the female leading character, in the series Still Star-Crossed. Although the series was short-lived, the actress came to prominence after starring there and got lots of fans among the American audience. In 2019 the woman reached new heights – she acted as fighter pilot Maria Rambeau, a single mother and the best friend of the protagonist Carol Danvers (which was played by Brie Larson in the 2019 Avengers: Endgame), in the superhero movie Captain Marvel.

Interestingly, Lynch was not the first choice to play the role. Initially, the character was to be played by DeWanda Wise, known for her role of Nola Darling in the 'Netflix' series She's Gotta Have It. However, she denied playing because of schedule problems.

Moreover, she got the role of a Bond girl and starred alongside Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, and Naomie Harris, in the upcoming installment of the James Bond series, entitled Bond 25. Also, she played Agent 355 in upcoming TV series Y, based on the comic-book series Y: The Last Man, written by Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra.
