Jahseh Onfroy, known professionally as XXXTentacion, was an American songwriter and rapper who died on June 18, 2018, due to the shooting during a robbery in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was a controversial artist, but still, Onfroy left a huge footprint in our musical culture and influenced most of the youth. Let's look at some facts about the rapper:
1. People who inspired him were not rappers
2. XXXTentacion could become a father
Onfroy was in a relationship with Jenesis Sanchez. On June 21, 2018, three days after the artist’s death, it was announced that Jenesis was pregnant with their child. When the couple was choosing names for the baby, Onfroy wanted it to be a boy Gekyume or a girl Xiorra. On January 26, 2019, Gekyume Onfroy was born, and now Sanchez raises him on her own.
3. Onfroy was a brave person even when he was just six years old
At the age of six, he tried to stab a man who was attempting to attack Onfroy’s mother. For that, he was included in a youth program, but what the kid did was really honest.
4. He was raised by his grandmother
Onfroy’s mom, Cleopatra, gave birth to her kid at a young age, so she did not have enough finances to take care of him. That is why her son often lived with other people, and at the age of 12, Onfroy started living with his grandmother, who always had the leading role in his upbringing. In one of the interviews, the rapper told that his grandma was like a real mother to him.
5. XXXTentacion had a duet with Noah Cyrus that was taken as ambiguous
In autumn 2017, the rapper announced about the release of new track Again for which he collaborated with the singer Noah Cyrus. Cyrus received critical comments because of her collaboration with such a controversial person who had domestic violence charges. After the song’s release, Noah did not mention it on any social platform.
6. The feud with Drake was the most memorable
Onfroy was considered as a rather aggressive person, and he had lots of disputes with various artists. One of the most popular was the conflict with Drake. In 2017, Drake released the single KMT for which he was accused of copying the rap flow from the XXXTentacion’s Look at Me in 2015. Onfroy started his aggressive reaction on Twitter.
7. His concert after the release from prison was not successful
On March 26, 2017, after Onfroy was released from jail, he decided to organize a surprise concert that was held on April 7 in Miami. The admission fee was just $5, but the number of tickets was limited. However, even before the rapper came to the location, there had been already a riot. Police closed the concert down and helped XXXTentacion to get out.
8. There were a lot of posthumous releases of XXXTentacion’s art
After the rapper’s death, his singles were in the process of release anyway. For instance, on June 12, 2019, Craig Xen released the track Run It Back! which featured XXXTentacion, and on July 21 also that year, another song was released. It was called Royalty and featured Stefflon Don, Vybz Kartel, and one of Bob Marley's kids, Ky-Mani Marley.
9. The rapper was on a house arrest
After the release from prison, XXXTentacion was on a house arrest. However, the judge allowed him to go on tour. Maybe if he were not allowed to go anywhere, he would not be shot.
